Startup and Innovation Panel held within SummerFest

A Startup and Innovation Panel was held within the framework of SummerFest, which was jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, the State Tourism Agency, the Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations’ Union and the Public Association of Youth Movement “Javan”. The event was attended by about 1,000 young people from Baku and regions.
 
Speaking at the panel, the department head of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Azizov gave detailed information on the ICT and startup ecosystem formed in Azerbaijan. He noted that the state pays special attention to startups and the development of innovations.
 
“The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies has been working in this direction for several years. In our country, projects are already being formed that can enter the global market. Several startups that had received direct financial and organizational support from the ministry became winners of prestigious international competitions,” Rashad Azizov added.
 
He said that the project “I2B-From Idea to Business” is being implemented for the purpose of forming a startup movement, supporting youth’s innovative business ideas, promoting the expansion of innovations and technologies, implementing new innovative ideas in the country, as well as forming the traditions of creation business incubation centers in the regions.
 
“The project, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the Regional Development Public Association of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the United Nations Development Programme, the companies Microsoft and Azercell covers both Baku and the regions. Winners and distinguished teams have the opportunity to demonstrate their projects at the Bakutel exhibition. A record number of startups (over 50) were represented at the Bakutel-2018 exhibition, which is a clear example of the positive results achieved in this field.”
 
Rashad Azizov also stressed that the finalists of this year’s startup tour, held in 12 regions of our republic, will take part in the innovation summer camp “InnoCamp” to be held in Shamakhi from August 29-31.
 
Within the framework of InnoCamp, round tables will be organized with the participation of managers of incubation centers and tech parks, accelerators and representatives of ICT companies. Their main goal of the round tables is to share knowledge and discuss the formation of a common ecosystem in this area.
