Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union Hamadoun Toure.gave a high assessment to the 17th BakuTel-2011 Azerbaijan International Exhibition and Conference of Telecommunications and Information Technologies.
Stressing that information security is one of the most pressing issues in the world, Hamadoun Toure expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out in Azerbaijan in this field.
Indicating that the information and communication technologies sector is rapidly developing in Azerbaijan, the distinguished guest stressed the importance of Azerbaijan’s accession to the International Telecommunication Union’s campaign of assistance to African countries. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that in addition to the oil and gas industry, the sector of information and communication technologies is a priority area for the government. President Aliyev added that, as is the case in the energy sector, Azerbaijan would intensify its effort to participate in regional information and communication technologies projects.
The President expressed confidence that Azerbaijan, as an active member of the International Telecommunication Union, would successfully participate in the projects initiated by the ITU. The sides exchanged views on prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Telecommunication Union.
