The printer has a compact size and lightweight design for maximum portability – and has wifi connectivity, supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands, allowing handy smartphone remote control.
The new Canon PIXMA TR150, and Canon PIXMA TR150 with battery, make full use of a 1.44” high resolution, OLED monitor, which gives the user a direct reference point for live ink level checks and, in the case of the latter model, battery power remaining. This screen enables the printers to be used freely without a laptop, allowing direct control of settings.
The Canon PIXMA TR150 with battery comes with a convenient AC power adaptor as well as an included USB Type-C cable, for charging of the battery using a compatible in-car charger, external power pack or a laptop computer. All of the connection ports are thoughtfully built into one side of the printers to reduce cable tangling and damage. There is also an integral anti-theft lock present, to allow the units to be secured in temporary locations, such as hot desks, cafes and public transport etc.
A standout feature of the PIXMA TR150 is the programmable set of 5 user presets. These allow templates to be printed directly from the unit, without the intervention of an external laptop, PC or mobile device. Print speeds are 5.5ipm for color and 9ipm for monochrome documents. The battery for the TR150 can be charged in an efficient time of 2 hours and 20 minutes using the AC adaptor. This translates to a workable 330 pages per charge. Helpfully the battery itself can be easily attached and detached without the use of additional tools.
The printers are fully compatible with the Canon PRINT app for Android and iOS devices, while documents can also be printed easily from Cloud-based locations such as Google Drive and Evernote, by using the PIXMA Cloud Link. Meanwhile Smartphone Copy enables photos of documents to be sent straight to the printer. For users working remotely, in the absence of a router, a direct device-printer connection can be initiated using a dedicated Wireless Connect feature.
In terms of print quality both printer models use a hybrid ink system, which allows exceptional document quality and easy photo printing. An additional black pigment cartridge provides sharp text, while a four color setup enables image reproduction, for a stated 100 year album lifespan. When ink levels fall, a specialist mode called Save Black Ink reduces black in usage, for even more economical printing.
Since borderless printing is possible, the new Canon models are ideal for instant, high quality ‘point of sale’ printing. The rear tray has a 50 plain paper sheet capacity.
The Canon PIXMA TR150 goes for £219.99 / €259.99, while the With Battery option is priced £249.99 / €299.99. Both models will be available to buy from April 2020
