The meeting was attended by 45 participants – representatives of telecommunications regulators from 18 countries (six EaP countries and Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Macedonia), as well as International Telecommunication Union (ITU), European Commission, the World Bank and consulting company Ernst & Young.
The video event was opened by Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade. First of all, the Deputy Minister spoke about the importance of holding the event. He also recalled that at the Eastern Partnership Summit, which was held on June 18 in the form of a video conference, President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is an active partner of the Eastern Partnership, and cooperation with the European Union is one of the main priorities of the country’s foreign policy.
According to the agenda of the meeting, the activities of EaPeReg for the first half of 2020, reports of Expert Working Groups, assessment of the independence of telecom regulators and other issues were discussed.
Moreover, a number of proposals to expand the activities of the Network were put for discussion by the chairmen of the working groups were heard, and certain recommendations were made.
At the end of the event, a preliminary decision was made to hold the next EaPeReg plenary meeting in Poland in the fall.
It should be noted that in accordance with the rules of EaPeReg, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MTCHT) was elected Deputy Chairman of the Network for 2020 and will lead the day-to-day activities of the Network until the end of the year.
As deputy chairman, the MTCHT was in charge of organizational issues and holding the EaPeReg plenary meeting in the country.
15th EapeReg Plenary meeting held
