International online conference World Net Summit was jointly organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, the United Nations Development Programme and FA International Trade Events LLC.
The event was attended by representatives of government bodies, the private sector, international organizations, high-ranking government officials from foreign countries, ministers, representatives of foreign diplomatic corps in our country, as well as the world’s first artificially intelligent humanoid robot Sophia, Hanson Robotics founder David Hanson, technical director of Baykar Makina Selcuk Bayraktar and other foreign experts.
Welcoming the participants of the online event, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade said that under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev peace was ensured in the region with the liberation of our lands from occupation. The Minister noted that this creates new opportunities for the development of the regions of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation and contributes to the development of regional cooperation in the field of innovations.
Ramin Guluzade said that state-of-the-art technologies play an important role in solving the problem of coronavirus, which is one of the main problems of today, and digital technologies prevent the deterioration of economic and social consequences of the pandemic. Stating that the need to use of these technologies is growing rapidly during the pandemic, the Minister stressed that we must be ready for the changes brought by technology: “Our country has adopted a robust strategy to combat the pandemic and minimize its impact. We have provided high quality and sustainable services with the widespread of information technologies. Digital development and innovations in Azerbaijan are a priority on the government’s political agenda.
Ramin Guluzade added that the application of smart city solutions is expanding in the country. This activity is one of the open government initiatives and is reflected in the National Action Plan for the Promotion of the Open Government for 2020-2022.
At the end of his speech, the Minister noted that digital technologies will play an important role in restoring a more reliable, coordinated and sustainable world in the post-pandemic period. To do this, governments need to work on new strategies and long-term programs and cooperate actively together.
Next to speak was the robot-humanoid Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics on the basis of artificial intelligence. She highly appreciated the organization of the World Net Summit, the largest online technology event. Stressing that Azerbaijan is a young and promising country, Sophia praised the contribution to the development of the innovation ecosystem.
In his speech, Technical Director of Baykar Makina and creator of the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle Selcuk Bayraktar once again congratulated Azerbaijan on its glorious victory. He spoke about the important role of drones in the development of the startup ecosystem, including the national military-industrial movement.
At the conference, held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reports were presented on innovation strategies in the post-pandemic period, steps to be taken by investors, the challenges facing fintech companies during this period and other topics. At the event, the heads of innovation centers in the region discussed the current situation in relation to the startup ecosystem.
