According to reports, the number of laptops and tablets in use in 2021 will increase by 125 million units over 2020. In 2022, the number of these devices globally will reach 6.4 billion units, an increase of 3.2% over 2021.
The agency believes that the number of laptops and tablets will grow by 8.8% and 11.7% respectively in 2021. However, the number of desktop computers will probably drop from 522 million in 2020 to 470 million in 2022.
In addition, although the number of smartphones fell by 2.6% in 2020, it will increase by 1% in 2021. Ranjit Atwal, senior research director of Gartner, said: “The pandemic has permanently changed the device usage patterns of employees and consumers. Family education has transformed into digital education, interactive games have turned to cloud computing…The types and numbers of equipment will continue to increase”.
