Fiber-optic internet to be built in Azerbaijani villages for first time
Aztelecom LLC of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies is building a network based on GPON technology (Gigabyte Passive Optical Network) in villages for the first time within the framework of projects to enhance the coverage area and improve the quality of services provided.
Thus, the telecommunications infrastructure is being modernized, optical lines are being laid, and GPON technology is being introduced in the village of Gadashoba in Khachmaz region and in the villages of Shaftahal, Ashaghi Seyidlar and Mehdililar in Zardab region.
To build the network, the construction of a fiber-optic line with a length of over 10 km in the village of Gadashoba and over 3 km in the above-mentioned villages of Zardab region has already been completed.
As a result of the project implementation, over 1000 families in Gadashoba and 500 families in the said villages of Zardab region will have the opportunity to access to modern telecommunication services. The introduction of this technology will also allow expanding the range of services provided. Moreover, the technical capabilities of this network are planned taking into account the expansion of residential buildings and an increase in the number of new subscribers in the future.
In order to provide citizens with high-quality broadband access services in other regions of the country, it is planned to carry out work on the reconstruction of the network with the introduction of GPON technology.
It should be noted that the information and communication technologies (ICT) sector is one of the leading and dynamically developing areas of the Azerbaijani economy. The state pays special attention to the development of this area and the elimination of digital divide. To that end, a number of important efforts are permanently under way in the regions in the field of building a modern telecommunications infrastructure based on the up-to-the- minute information technologies and technological solutions. In accordance with the country’s digital transformation policy, new generation networks are being deployed in regions, settlements and villages, and projects are being implemented for sustainable, safe and high-quality use of information and telecommunication services by citizens.
