This theme for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2021 is “Accelerating digital transformation in challenging times.”
On this occasion, a high-level virtual panel was held today as part of the World Summit on the Information Society.
The main goal is to emphasize the need to further enhance cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and telecommunications, both between countries and in various sectors.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmir Velizade also participated in the panel. Speaking about the importance of the digital transformation, the Deputy Minister informed about the work done and the work that needs to be done in accordance with the challenges of the time.
In his speech, Elmir Velizade also touched upon the issue of application of state-of-the-art technologies in the lands liberated from occupation. “It is planned to build cities and villages in the liberated areas on the basis of modern technologies using smart and green technologies,” the Deputy Minister said.
The panel discussed the role of digital technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic and the direction in which activities will develop in the future.
It is worth mentioning that the results of the World Summit on the Information Society Prizes 2021 Awards, established by the International Telecommunication Union, will be announced on May 18. A number of projects from Azerbaijan have also been submitted to the international contest.

May 17 is celebrated as World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD).
