HarmonyOS 2.0 is here on the Watch 3, Watch 3 Pro and MatePad Pro, as we have previously covered. However, Huawei also announced plans to update numerous devices to its latest OS, presumably because it replaces EMUI. Huawei describes HarmonyOS 2.0 as a new OS, but outlets like Ars Technica continue to refer to it as an Android fork. Huawei's reliance on Apple hardware to describe HarmonyOS' many facets does not help its cause, in our opinion.
Regardless, Huawei claims that it will upgrade over 100 smartphones and tablets to HarmonyOS by mid-2022. Unsurprisingly, newer devices like the Mate 30 and P40 series will receive HarmonyOS 2.0, as will the Mate Xs. However, Huawei asserts that it will update devices that have stopped receiving EMUI updates.
Specifically, Huawei aims to update the Mate 9, Mate 10, P10, P20, nova 5, M5 and V series to HarmonyOS 2.0. Huawei released the Mate 9 and P10 in 2016 and 2017 respectively, which is Apple levels of software support. It is unclear if or when Huawei will begin rolling out HarmonyOS globally, though. Huawei's global social media channels remain quiet on update plans, so we suspect that those presented below only apply to devices in China, for the time being.
