Webometrics ranked 23,000 world universities, including 38 universities in Azerbaijan, based on their general strength, modernity, electronic presence, and recognition in electronic sources.
The rating is performed by one of the world's leading research centers, Spanish National Research Council. They use the methodology of Stanford University and Google research as a basis. The center was created by Nobel Laureate Professor Ramon y Cajal in 1907. The Webometrics rating has been ranking world universities since 2004.
Khazar became the only Azerbaijani university to make it to the highest league (top 1/3 overall) University (6233rd place).
Three Azerbaijani universities, Qafqaz University, Baku State University and Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy were placed in the second league.
The league includes 18 more Azerbaijani universities.
The countries most highly represented in the top league are the USA (with 1722 universities), China (with 567) and Japan (with 388).
