During the meeting the minister provided the honorable guest with broad information on Azerbaijan’s achievements in ICT, including national and regional projects implemented in this sphere. “2013 was declared the Year of Information and Communication Technologies in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan is now involved in the implementation of two major transnational projects - as a coordinator of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project, on which the UN General Assembly passed a second resolution in 2012 supporting the project politically, and as one of the main initiators and participants of the Europe Persia Express Gateway (EPEG) project, which has already been put into operation.
Azerbaijan’s first telecommunication satellite “Azerspace” has already started rendering export services. Work is underway by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies to further develop ICT in Azerbaijan, including construction of High-Technology Park, formation of the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies and creation of the Information Technologies University.
The President of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly Vuk Jeremic, in his turn, said that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN continues to develop.
“Development of energy and information technologies sectors are main topics of UN’s discussions on sustainable development. I have familiarized myself with Azerbaijan’s achievements in various spheres, and I can say that the republic has achieved great success in both of these sectors.”
During the meeting the sides discussed a number of important issues, including prospects for future cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations General Assembly in the ICT sphere. The meeting highlighted the significance of the TASIM project and gave a high assessment to the support provided by the UN to the project. The sides also exchanged their views on various problems existing in the ICT sphere.

The President of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly Vuk Jeremic has paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
