The purpose of the marathon, which has been held in Baku for two years, was to accelerate the development of the sports industry and to promote healthy lifestyle among young people.
The Baku Marathon 2017 started at the National Flag Square and ran 21 kilometers all the way to the Baku Olympic Stadium.
More than 1,000 foreigners from various countries and around 600 representatives from different regions of Azerbaijan participated in this year’s marathon, which was held under the motto “Win the Wind”.
The Baku Marathon 2017 was organized with the support of the Administration of the Seafront Boulevard and the Baku Olympic Stadium. The company Sport Marketing Group (SMG) acted as an executive of the project.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies was one of a number of partners and sponsors of the marathon.
All subdivisions of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies took an active part in the Baku Marathon 2017. Thus, 1824 employees of the Ministry and its subdivisions participated in the marathon.
Employee of the Data Processing Centre of the Ministry Zargarli Turkay, who won the Republican Spartakiad “Saglamliq – 2016”, which was held last year for communication workers, took the 30th place in the marathon, having covered a distance of 21 km in 110 minutes.
In addition to being a sports event, the marathon is also a charitable activity. Thus, all the funds collected from the Baku Marathon 2017 will be spend on the implementation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s project on alleviating the conditions of children deprived of parental care.
It should be noted that to date, such marathons have been held in London, Paris, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, Barcelona, Istanbul and other cities.
