Workers of Communication and Information Technology sphere celebrate their professional holiday
Today, activities have been conducted to celebrate the professional holiday of workers of the Communication and Information Technology sphere.
Employees of the Communication and IT Ministry came to the Martyrs Lane and laid a wreath at the tomb of the Azerbaijani people’s national leader and founder of the independent Azerbaijan Republic, Heydar Aliyev.
Flowers were also laid at the tomb of the outstanding ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva. Communications workers laid flowers at the tombs of the heroes, who gave their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
Then, the celebrations dedicated the professional holiday of workers of the communication and IT sphere and the 130-th anniversary of creation of the telephone communication in Azerbaijan were held in “Hilton” hotel.
The Minister of the Communications and IT, Ali Abbasov, while speaking at the event, told that the main period of development of the communication system in Azerbaijan falls to 70-80 years of the last century.
“In 1976 the capacity of the Baku telephone network increased by 20 times compared to the previous periods. The telephone became an integral part of live of the citizen of Azerbaijan and gave impetus to development of the computer science in our country.
When the national leader Heydar Aliyev came to power for the second time in 1993, the Communication and IT sector started to rapidly develop, and the information and communication technologies segment began to expand in Azerbaijan”, he added.
“The national leader Heydar Aliyev initiated development of ICT sector in Azerbaijan by adopting “the National Strategy for development of information-communication technologies in Azerbaijan Republic”. “This State Program will be completed next year and certain progress has been made in this direction.
For example, internet users now make up 60% of Azerbaijan’s population with half of them using broad-band services. Let’s note that this figure exceeds the word rates by 2 times. Today, 110 mobile phones fall to every 100 people, and this exceeds the world rates by 35-40%.
And these figures have been announced by reliable sources of the world. By giving priority to this sphere the president Ilham Aliyev set new targets before the workers of the communication and IT sphere. New internet-economy sector has been created in the world.
This is very powerful sphere. While speaking about importance of “BakuTel-2011” exhibition held in Baku, the minister noted that ICT sphere, along with other spheres, has been rapidly developing in the last 8 years.
Azerbaijan became regional leader in this sphere and draw attention of big companies of developed countries of the world. While speaking about development of ICT sector in the country the minister noted progresses made in realization of TASIM project, lunching National Satellite into the orbit, “EPEQ” project of “Delta Telekom” company, development of nanotechnologies and techno-parks.
All free operator in Azerbaijan were provided with “3G” licenses. The Minister gave high assessment to the works implemented in the sphere of “Electron Security”. Then the participants of the invent saw a film about development of the communications in Azerbaijan.
After that, some of the participants spoke about development in ICT sector of Azerbaijan, and achievements made in this sphere. They also thanked the president Ilham Aliyev for his care and attention.
After that, some of the communication workers received rewords from The Communication and IT Ministry. At the end, the address to the president Ilham Aliyev on behalf of the participants to the event was read.
