About 140 million was inverted in the ICT sector and postal services in Azerbaijan in January-September, which is more by 22 percent over the same period 2010 and makes up 1.8 percent of total investments in the economy, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported. The volume of investments made by enterprises and ministry's institutions was 70.1 million manat.
New ATSs with total capacity of 19, 908 units were put into operation in the country. According to the statistical indicators, today numbering capacity of the ATS network across the country is 1,687,208 units.
Some 3.4 million manat was invested in the reconstruction of the regional telecom units and 9.7 million manat - the modernization of the Baku Telephone Communication".
The total number of phones accounted for every 100 people is 16.3 units. This figure is 35.1 units in Baku, 10.8 -other regions of the country and 7.1 units - rural areas.
During the report period, the subscriber base of mobile operators in Azerbaijan increased by 518 965, amounting to 9.629 million subscribers.
Azerbaijan outstrips the world average of 35 percent in terms of mobile penetration. The world average mobile penetration currently stands at 78 percent. Some 105 mobile phones accounted for every 100 people in Azerbaijan.
